'The challenge and unpredictability of glass fascinates and excites. There is always the unknown element of risk no matter how developed the skill. Colour plays a large part in my work as does the relationship between light and the translucent glass. I especially enjoy the coloured shadows that light casts on the surface beneath the pieces. My work is created from a mix of organic and geometric shapes which are fused and slumped. Adding depth and interest to the glass, the encapsulated text draws on memories which will last and not fade. I am in the process of setting up as a designer maker and continuing to refine the ‘Memories’ theme which has always been a key element to my work. I intend to investigate personalising glass with text and images that are memorable to the recipient. Several pieces were sold as a result of the degree show, work is going out to galleries and commissions have already been taken. For the degree show, only a small proportion of the themes and ideas that I had been working on were displayed. I am now working to develop these designs further and produce a wider portfolio of work'
